Editor's Ethics
The editor is responsible for everything that is published in it and is willing to publish corrections, clarifications and retractions when necessary.
The evaluation process is clearly defined and described in the section of Editorial Policy;Peer review;Details on the website.
The decision of the editor to accept or reject a work for publication is based solely on the importance of the article, the originality, clarity and relevance that the work represents for the journal. To make this decision, it relies on the evaluations of the peer reviewer or reviewers.
Given that the evaluation process has a "double blind" policy, the Journal undertakes to respect the confidentiality of the identity of both authors and reviewers.
The Journal is committed to the transparency of the processes and must promptly inform the authors of the status or stage of the process in which their manuscript is found and the final decision derived from the resolutions of the review. Evaluates the manuscripts and their intellectual content without distinction of ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, religious beliefs, ethnic origin, nationality or the political philosophy of the authors.
Likewise, the editor will keep confidentiality regarding any type of documentation, information or process that is generated or exchanged, will be subject to what is applicable to the Ley General de Transparencia y Acceso a la Información Pública Gubernamental y su Reglamento de Transparencia, Información Pública Gubernamental, as well as the Reglamento de Transparencia y Acceso a la Información Pública de la Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México , published in the Gaceta UNAM on August 25, 2016.
All unpublished material given to know in a received manuscript is confidential and may not be used in personal researches of an editor, without the express written consent of the author. Inside information or ideas obtained through peer review is confidential and will not be used for personal gain.
The editor will make fair and impartial decisions to ensure a fair and appropriate peer review process.
Author's ethics
Any submitted work must be an original creation of the author or authors and must not have been previously published, nor be pending for peer reviewing and / or publication in any other medium, printed or electronic according to the instructions published on the website. A work will be considered as previously published when any of the following situations occurs:
These criteria refer to previous publications in print or digital form, and in any language.
The authors agree not to submit their manuscript simultaneously in more than one journal for evaluation since the submitted work does not contain illegal material and / or selected parts of other scientific documents (from the author or from another) must be correctly quoted, not violate any right and must not constitute more than 30% of the content of the article.
Plagiarism in all its forms constitutes unethical behavior and is unacceptable. Consequently, any manuscript that incurs in plagiarism will be eliminated and not considered for publication.
In case the plagiarism of a published manuscript is discovered, said manuscript will remain published with the legend "Retracted by plagiarism" in any electronic medium (website, indexes, seedbeds, etc.). If the article is accepted for publication, but it is discovered as previously published in another medium, the publication in the Journal will be canceled.
The authors must ensure the authorship of the manuscript submitted, all authors must have worked in the development of the research so they understand and accept that there is no possibility of elimination, increase or substitution of authors for any reason, once the process has begun .
The authors assume responsibility for the entire content of the work submitted, their experiments and their repeatability. All authors must approve the final version of the manuscript. All sources of financial support for the project must be revealed in the manuscript.
Authors are required to declare the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and AI-assisted technologies in their manuscripts. Declaring the use of these technologies promotes transparency and trust among authors, readers, reviewers, editors, and contributors, and facilitates compliance with the terms of use of the relevant tool or technology.
Reviewers' ethics
Any manuscript received for review must be treated as a confidential document. It should not be shown or discussed with other experts, except with the authorization of the editor. In case of not being able to evaluate it and if another reviewer can suggest it, it must do so directly to the Journal and eliminate any copy (printed and / or digital) of the document.
Any selected reviewer should notify the editor, in the shortest time possible, if he is qualified to review the research of a manuscript or if he is unable to do so.
The reviewer undertakes to report any unethical conduct by the authors and indicate all the information that may support the rejection of the publication of the manuscript, the review must be conducted objectively. Any personal criticism of the author is inappropriate and considered unethical. Reviewers must express their points of view clearly and with valid arguments.
No unpublished material given to know in a sent manuscript may be used in personal investigations of a reviewer, without the express written consent of the author. All privileged information or ideas obtained through peer review must be confidential and will not be used to obtain personal benefits. Reviewers should not evaluate manuscripts in which they have a conflict of interest.
Quality policy
The management of the journal and the ascribed personnel commits to publish the best manuscripts with the required level for a publication of scientific and peer reviewed research, providing the necessary and sufficient elements to satisfy the requirements of the interested parties, seeking the continuous improvement of their effectiveness and complying with applicable legal and regulatory requirements.
Back to startOpen access policy
Authors who publish in Ingeniería Investigación y Tecnología accept the following conditions:
Anti-plagiarism policy
The journal Ingeniería, Investigación y Tecnología strongly rejects any conduct that may be considered plagiarism, such as submitting manuscripts by other authors or by the same authors (self-plagiarism). For this reason, all submitted manuscripts are reviewed using software tools to detect possible cases of plagiarism. This review is carried out at different stages of the evaluation process (upon receipt of the manuscript, during peer review, and prior to publication if the manuscript is approved), and even after the article has been published. If a case of plagiarism is detected, the journal reserves the right to add the label “retracted article” to the article published by the journal.
Authors must appropriately cite information obtained from other sources, even if it involves their own research that has already been published. Submitted manuscripts must contain at least 75% original content; they must not have been published nor be under review or scheduled for publication in any other medium (print or digital), nor in any other language.
Back to startPolicy on the Use of Artificial Intelligence Tools in Research and Manuscript Preparation
1. General Principle
The journal Ingeniería Investigación y Tecnología recognizes that Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools, including generative language models, image-generation systems, coding assistants, data-analysis platforms, and similar technologies, may serve as legitimate tools to support scientific research and technological development.
However, such tools do not replace scientific judgment, professional responsibility, or academic integrity. Full responsibility for the content of a manuscript rests exclusively with its authors.
2. Authorship and Responsibility
Artificial Intelligence tools cannot be listed as authors or co-authors of a scientific article.
Authorship entails intellectual, ethical, and legal responsibility for the research conducted, the results reported and the conclusions presented, responsibilities that cannot be assumed by automated systems.
All authors must review, validate, and approve the final version of the manuscript prior to submission.
3. Permitted Uses
The use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools is permitted as support for activities such as:
- language editing and grammar correction;
- translation and improvement of writing quality;
- support in programming and code debugging;
- organization and preliminary analysis of information;
- data processing;
- generation of diagrams, schematics, or supporting graphical material; and
- assistance with routine documentation and literature-search tasks.
Authors remain fully responsible for verifying the accuracy, appropriateness, and reliability of any outputs generated through such tools.
Routine uses of AI solely for language improvement, spelling correction, grammar checking, formatting assistance, or similar editorial purposes do not require disclosure.
4. Transparency and Disclosure
Authors must disclose the use of AI tools whenever such tools have made a substantive contribution to the intellectual, scientific, technical, or creative content of the manuscript.
Disclosure is required when AI tools have been used for purposes including, but not limited to:
- generation of manuscript text beyond minor language editing;
- creation of figures, images, diagrams, or graphical content intended for publication;
- generation or substantial modification of computer code used in the reported research;
- development of mathematical models, engineering designs, or optimization procedures;
- interpretation of results;
- generation of datasets, simulations, analyses, or technical conclusions.
When disclosure is required, authors shall include a section entitled:
Declaration on the Use of Artificial Intelligence
The declaration should specify:
- the name of the tool used;
- the version or provider, where applicable;
- the purpose for which it was used; and
- the extent of its contribution.
Example:
The authors used ChatGPT (OpenAI) to assist in the preparation of initial manuscript drafts and to support the development of computer code used in the analysis. All AI-generated outputs were reviewed, validated, and modified as necessary by the authors, who assume full responsibility for the content of the manuscript.
Failure to disclose substantive uses of AI may be considered a breach of the journal’s publication ethics policies.
The use of AI-generated analyses, simulations, designs, calculations, or engineering recommendations without independent technical verification by the authors is not acceptable.
If no AI tools were used, no declaration is required.
5. Use of AI in Scientific and Technical Results
Given the technical scope of the journal, particular care must be exercised when AI tools are employed in activities involving:
- computational simulations;
- numerical analysis;
- mathematical modeling;
- source-code generation;
- process optimization;
- engineering design;
- interpretation of experimental results;
- image and signal processing; and
- preparation of technical figures and visualizations.
Results obtained with the assistance of AI tools must remain verifiable, reproducible, and scientifically justified.
The use of AI does not exempt authors from adequately describing their methodology or from providing sufficient information to enable independent reproduction of the reported results.
6. Data, Images, and AI-Generated Content
Authors must clearly identify any figures, images, diagrams, datasets, or other materials generated wholly or partially through AI tools whenever such content forms part of the work presented.
AI-generated content must not be presented as experimental observations, measured data, validated simulations, or research findings obtained through methods that were not actually employed.
7. References and Verification of Information
Authors are responsible for verifying the existence, accuracy, and relevance of all references cited in their manuscripts.
The inclusion of fabricated, inaccurate, or unverified references generated by AI systems constitutes a breach of good scientific practice.
8. Confidentiality and Third-Party Rights
Authors must ensure that the use of AI tools does not result in the unauthorized disclosure of confidential information, restricted data, intellectual property, proprietary materials, or information subject to non-disclosure agreements.
9. Editorial Assessment
The journal reserves the right to request additional information regarding the use of AI tools during the editorial and peer-review process, as well as methodological clarifications when necessary to ensure scientific integrity.
The deliberate omission of relevant information concerning the use of AI may constitute grounds for editorial rejection, post-publication correction, or retraction of a published article.
Final Statement
Ingeniería Investigación y Tecnología considers Artificial Intelligence tools to be valuable instruments that can support scientific and technological work. However, they do not replace specialized knowledge, engineering judgment, experimental validation, critical analysis, or the professional responsibility of researchers.
